An old man stood by the cemetary gate

And looked at the sky, the hour was late.

He walked by some graves and came to a stone.

He took off his hat and knelt there alone.

The name on the stone was a name he loved.

His beloved wife had been taken to God's home above.

A tear touched his cheek as memories came

Of a beautiful girl he had walked down the lane.

He remembered the home they shared for so long

And her soft, sweet voice as she would sing an old song.

She loved her Lord and prayed each day

That she would be able to teach her children God's way.

He remembered the day the doctor came in

To her bedside, with his face so grim,

And told him she would soon be leaving him.

As he looked into her face and saw a faint smile,

She knew they would only be apart for a while.

They would meet again on that Golden shore,

Where they would be together forever more.
